COASTGUARDS battled for four hours in ten-feet high waves to rescue three people stranded in a yacht in Morecambe Bay.
The boat had run aground in water about a 1,000 yards from the shore at Heysham when its engine failed just after 7pm on Monday (June 12).
Coastguards were called to assist the three people on board the boat, which was sailing from the Isle of Man to the Glasson Marina at Lancaster.
An inflatable lifeboat from Morecambe was launched and a bigger back-up boat from Fleetwood assisted as the weather conditions deteriorated.
A line was attached to the yacht and it was towed back to Fleetwood where its three passengers, who were from Colne, were safely helped from the boat.
