NEARLY 300 new recruits are being sought by Great Universal Shopping group.
A total of 270 jobs are to be offered at the GUS call centre in London Road, despite rumours that the firm were axing 800 staff due to profit losses.
Nicola Kettle, Human Resources manager at the centre, said: "There have been concerns about a drop in profits for GUS recently, but not here at Preston -- I'm pleased to say we're growing!"
A spokesman for Reality, the call centre division of GUS, confirmed that Preston would be looking for around 270 new people.
Meanwhile, established furnishings firm Plumbs say they are looking to shed 45 jobs at their Old Lancaster Lane site after a slump in this sales.
It is proposed that around 17 redundancies will be from managerial and supervisory positions with the remainder coming from the shop floor.
