TWO pie spies have launched a scathing attack on Leigh Centurions - blasting the club's catering department and ripping holes in its stadium.
Dave Roberts and Gary Town put Hilton Park at a lowly 22 out of the 32 rugby league clubs they visited last season after describing the grub as "some of the most tasteless food of the year."
Leigh lies five places below rivals Wigan Warriors but 10 places ahead of bottom-of-the-table Wembley Stadium.
Working undercover, the two Rugby League fans spent half-time at matches munching and drinking their way through clubs' finest food offerings.
At Leigh the pair ate a hot dog, a burger, a meat and potato pie and some chips, washed down with a coffee.
But rather than praise the gastronomic offerings they said: "The hot dog at £1 was small, tasteless and cold. It needed plenty of brown sauce to soften up the rock hard bun.
"The burger at £1.50 looked and tasted more like an onion bargi and was cold but at least the bun was fresh.
"The chips at 75p were green and unpleasant."
Some of the most scathing attacks were reserved for Hilton Park itself. Mr Roberts wrote: "'Hilton Park is falling down' was the chant of some of the visiting fans. It's not far away from the truth.
"The ground is a wreck and needs rebuilding."
Lancashire Lynx, based in Preston, topped the poll. Keighley and Whitehaven came second and third respectively.
Mr Roberts, who edits Oldham fanzine Roughyed Times with Mr Town, said: "We stand by everything we have written because it was a fair reflection of our experience on the day."
Leigh Centurions are unimpressed with the poll. Kevin Ashcroft, commercial manager, said: "At the beginning of the season we changed our catering franchise and fans will find that some of the best food in the country is available here.
"And as for the ground, at least we own our stadium unlike some clubs in the league."
