IN the last few days we've had the unedifying spectacle of the local Greens rushing to celebrate the latest setback to the Western Bypass.
They ignore the benefits that even the local Plan Inspector acknowledged the road would bring less atmospheric pollution in Galgate and Scotforth, reduced congestion in the city centre. They are all silent on the importance of the road to industrial regeneration and job creation.
These people have no vision for economic development beyond employing more people on public transport. They show no interest in the expansion of Lancaster's employment base, no ideas about sustainable development of industry of the future and offer nothing to those who are unemployed or poor.
There are radical ways in which we could improve our environment and our economy to the benefit of all. However, our own local Greens will have none of them. They want to take us back to the small world of the past. They are conservatives with a small 'c'. They're Tories on bikes.
