EIGHT stalwarts of local amateur football will be honoured later this month.
They are the lifeblood of soccer's grassroots -- and at the annual meeting of the Lancashire Football Association they will stand with pride.
The AGM will be held at the County Ground Headquarters at Leyland on June 27.
And when it comes to the part of the evening set aside for the announcement of this year's major football awards Leigh & District will be mentioned more times than other single area of the county.
That's better than any other area has achieved in the entire one hundred an twenty two years of the Association's existence.
The Super Eight are set to be presented with LFA Order of Merit badges. This is one of the LFA's top awards, recognising thirty years service to the amateur game, whether it be with one club, league or association.
From the Leigh & District Referees Society Stuart Hyde, Dennis McGuire, Gilbert Wilkinson and Don Wilson will proudly step forward.
The three individuals who are the life and blood of Atherton Town FC, Gerald Butler, Eric Boardman and Harry Murphy, plus Brain Seddon from Atherton LR are also set for this prestigious official recognition of their achievements.
What a great honour these eight individuals have brought to the local soccer scene!
