THEY'RE walking down The Avenue with heads held high.
They scored a comfortable win against 10-man Foundry in the Leigh Pub Cricket League.
Steady Eddy Picard top scored for Foundry on 30 -- following a lot of advice on shot selection from The Avenue's Tony Libby.
Paul Crook stepped out of retirement to score a respectable 11.
Foundry scored only 34 runs off the first 12 overs with Trigger Jones, Mark Hudspith, Dave Roberts and wicketkeeper Pugsley each taking two wickets, Rob Derbyshire mopping up the tail-end.
The Avenue reply saw skipper Trigger Jones keeping his side in control. Mark Hudspith hit some memorable boundaries on his way to 45, giving on the way two easy catches which were put down.
The first was dropped by Sammy Morgan, the second by veteran Keith Britten deep on the boundary, the final result on that one being a stomach ache and four runs!
Hudspith was ably supported by Libby, who scored 30.
By the time Chris Garfin and Johnny Tickle were brought into the attack it was to late, although each took a wicket.
Boar's Head beat Standard Mower, who bowled well although their batting was no match for the ferocious bowling of the Boar's Head attack controlled by captain Mike Atherton.
It was a day for surprise victories. The Bridgewater beat Three Crowns, one of the teams tipped for the title, Sean Barrington hitting 46.
Fir Tree Fettlers beat Bull's Head by 10 runs while Railway beat new boys Hag Fold WMC in a tight match.
