A PARTIALLY blind woman was attacked and robbed as she walked through St Helens town centre some time between 2.30 and 3.30pm on Wednesday, June 7.
After withdrawing £110 from a cash-point machine at the Halifax branch in Church Square, the 51-year-old woman headed towards Chalon Way with the money still in her hand.
As she passed a subway gate near to Chalon Way she felt a heavy blow to her back which knocked her to the ground. Then someone snatched the cash from her hand and ran off.
The victim was left dazed and in considerable distress and was helped to her feet by a passer-by. She was later treated in hospital but could not give any description of her attacker.
Police believe the street may have been busy with shoppers at the time of the incident and anyone who witnessed the robbery is asked to contact DS John Roberts at St Helens CID on 0151 777 6876 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
