RAINFORD'S title challenge continues to gather momentum after a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Haydock.
Haydock were reduced to 148 all out against a Rainford attack dominated by skipper Ste Harrison (5-40) and vice-captain Paul Calland (3-35).
The Rainford reply survived the early loss of Robinson as Calland (61 not out), Curran (28) and Harrison (28 not out) saw them home.
The Second XI went down in the reverse fixture at Rainford. A dismal total of 96 was only illuminated by the hitting of Haskayne, a score which Haydock passed with ease to win by seven-wickets.
Match ball sponsor was F Turley.
The Second XI made amends on Sunday as they reached the semi-final of the Pochin Cup. Rainford had Welding (40), Haskayne (25) and Sebastian (17) to thank for their score of 127-9 but it never looked enough on a flat home track. However, Winstanley Park had bargained without Corden (4-18), Ford (3-21) and Haskayne (3-29) who between them dismissed the visitors for just 99.
