CONMEN posing as council contractors have duped an elderly woman in Newton-le-Willows out of £50.
The council is currently carrying out painting work on houses on the Fairbrothers Estate in Newton and the men posed as officials saying they needed the £50 to help carry out the project. Police have been informed.
The council stresses that all staff and bone fide contractors carry identification cards and if anyone is in doubt they should contact their local council office.
