ANTHONY Williams, released by Rovers at the end of last season, was today set to sign for Third Division Hartlepool United.
The Welsh under-21 international goalkeeper was also wanted by Dundee United and Macclesfield Town, where he spent a period on loan last season.
But Williams has opted to join Pool, managed by former Manchester United goalkeeper Chris Turner, and was set to agree a deal once he had completed a medical at Victoria Park.
"He's a quality keeper which is obvious from the number of Welsh caps he has and the interest he has raised.
"I want him to be challenging Martin Hollund for the number one shirt from the start of the season," said Turner.
