PRO Bono Publico (June 2) should read the Letters column carefully before putting pen to paper.
The letter by Jim Homewood about pensions (May 19) makes the point quite specifically that "it was pointed out that what we are asking for was not a handout but the money we had paid into the NI fund during our working lives". Jim went on to say, in connection with the care in the community, " . . . for which the elderly had already paid and were now having to pay again".
I don't know if Pro Bono Publico is a pensioner, but if the answer is "yes" may I suggest that he or she attends our regular monthly meetings and, instead of sniping at those of us like Jim who are constantly involved in the campaign to improve the lot of pensioners, Pro Bono Publico could do a job for the pensioners he or she so obviously supports.

vice-chairman, Bury Pensioners Association.
