STUDENTS at Darwen Vale High School are proving they are on the right wavelength as they prepare to broadcast their own radio station.
The Radio Authority has announced the frequency for Darwen Vale Radio (DVR) as 106.5 FM. It will be heard in a three-mile range from Sunday July 2 until July 4.
Pupils will be responsible for the broadcasting, marketing, research and administration of the temporary radio station.
Headteacher Lynn Dunning said: Everything is on track for the grand launch. We will be broadcasting test transmissions throughout the Sunday and our official launch is 8am on Monday." The station will feature music and an impressive line-up of studio guests, information on school activities, local news, travel updates, weather and what's on information. It is part of a new school initiative which is expected to be continued annually.
East Lancashire consultants, The Radio Surgery, is overseeing the project and studio hire. Manager David Blaxhall said that the pupils have adapted well to their new found fame.
He added: "The pupils are very excited about the project, and who knows, some of them may be the radio personalities of tomorrow. We are now busy putting the final touches to the presenter line up and recording the station jingles and commercials."
DVR is still interested in hearing from local businesses that wish to support the venture by either advertising or sponsorship. For further details ring Mrs Dunning on 01254 223000.
