WHETHER or not it was a sign of true dedication or a touch of sunstroke, the fact that dozens of die-hard fans of Irish warbler Daniel O' Donnell were prepared to queue for more than three days for tickets for his show at Blackburn's King George's Hall next October suggests that the saying, 'It takes all sorts,' still has a use.
All the more so, in this case, when it turns out that these desperate sorts need not have gone to such extremes -- as there were still more than 1,000 tickets left after they swamped the box office as soon as it opened.
But what motivates people to go to such lengths? The explanation of first-in-the-queue fan Gill Westergreen was revealing.
"The first time I saw Daniel was here at Blackburn. It was like meeting God," she said.
"I bought a jumper of his at a charity auction and I've never washed it. I just keep it and smell it."
Smells heavenly, does he? Or is it yet more proof that it takes all sorts? Sad or what?
