THE ladies of the Lodge family are striking a blow for their gender.
Mum Catherine has just been appointed the first-ever female steward at Darwen Subscription Bowling Club -- and eldest daughter Alex is the club's first female secretary.
"It just shows how times are changing," said 48-year-old Catherine.
"I think there are very few solo female stewards at clubs anywhere so hopefully this will encourage others to consider it."
With youngest daughter Steph helping out behind the bar, the Anyon Street club doubles as a second home.
Catherine had been working as a part-time barmaid at the club for the past six years before being asked to apply for the steward's job.
In February Alex, 26, of Lynwood Avenue, Darwen, became the secretary after the club voted to admit women as members.
Steph, 18, who lives with her mum at Hollin Bridge Street, has been working behind the bar for the past six months.
The appointments continue a long link between the Lodge family and the club, where Catherine's grandfather servied as steward 40 years ago.
The club is staging an open night on July 1 to mark the opening of its new function room and is inviting all past and present members to attend.
