REGARDING the destruction caused by car thieves racing around Pleasington Cemetery in Blackburn (LET, June 17 and 21), the damaged teddy bear headstone you pictured was that on my granddaughter Lauren's grave.
I was and still am horrified. My son and his wife, her parents, are really gutted. Is nothing sacred any more?
Words fail me about the mindless pea brains who did this. If they do get caught, they'll just get their wrists slapped - that's the system in this country now.
But having said that, who should have to pay for the damage? - Blackburn Council, as far as I'm concerned for neglecting to have the cemetery gates locked.
I buried my husband at Pleasington last year so I know you have to pay quite an amount for graves and such. And people who have lost someone should at least feel that they are in their final resting place.
Not so at Pleasington. This couldn't have happened if the gates had been locked.
