MORECAMBE councillor Nick Westwell has a dream for the future of the troubled Bubbles Leisure Centre.
And he wants to measure public support for his proposed world class BMX, skateboard and skating centre.
The popular Bubbles swimming pools have been closed since last October, as spiralling costs make its future untenable.
Cllr Westwell claims his plan would be relatively cheap, have low upkeep costs and help keep children and teenagers off the streets.
And he hopes that, by using some of the existing facilities, the council could create a major community facility while saving the reported £750,000 cost of clearing the site.
"It is the case that there is a very large problem of disorderly youths hanging around street corners in Morecambe" said Cllr Westwell. "That, coupled with there being a need to do something with Bubbles which does not involve year on year costs which spiral out of control, lead me to come up with the idea of a skate and BMX park.
"If the skate park is successful, we could look, perhaps, at taking over the indoor pool and building something for smaller kids.
"This is the part of town where all our events happen. It could become the epicentre of tourism in Morecambe."
Cllr Westwell is now hoping he will receive public support for the plan or start a debate on alternative uses for the site.
He also hopes the police and youth groups will come forward with their ideas about how Bubbles can be used to ease teen nuisance.
"This is an open suggestion, because nobody seems to be thinking about what we can do for Morecambe.
What do you think about Nick Westwell's vision for Bubbles? Would you or your children use a skate and BMX park or do you have your own idea for what the site could be used for?
