LEYLAND soon had Darwen struggling on 49-3 but the middle order was able to steady the ship and Graham Parkinson shared two 50 partnerships with Neil Cordingley who top scored with 41, and Mark Bennett who fell on 39 before the innings closed on 214-8.
Leyland made an excellent start in the runs chase with 70 on the board before the first wicket fell.
Professional Rimmer was caught by Semple off captain Jeff Hacking for 46, including seven fours.
Ian McDonnel departed with the visitors on 87 and he was soon followed Neil Kenyon, bowled by Hacking for four.
Semple had Mark Pallet lbw for 15 before Leyland's remaining five wickets fall for a meagre 17 runs.
