BLACKBROOK Royals have surged to a double cup success against neighbours Pilkington Recs.

Their triumphs came at under 11s and under 10s level

A stunning four-try performance from Kurt Haggerty carried Royals to victory in this North West Counties cup final at City Road.

Royals began slowly and needed Haggerty's first two tries to go in level at the break. After the interval though they took control with Haggerty getting two more and Dan Fairhurst, the outstanding Will Abbott and Ashley Butler adding others, although Pilks were game to the end and scored two further tries themselves. Bobbie Littler and Kizzie Edwards also had fine game, while Mark Bostock ran strongly throughout.

Although Royals were never headed it was nip and tuck before Andrew Donovan scored his second try late in the game to clinch victory. Robert Anders, Shaun Magennis and the excellent Gary Wheeler scored the other tries while skipper Ian Marren, powerful Liam Lavin, Jamie Foster and Chris McGrath also impressed as Royals took the trophy for the third successive year.

Try scorers for Pilks were unsung hero Kurtis Marsh, top tackler Danny Filson, Thomas Armstrong and Gareth Frodsham, who shared the coaches award with Sandy Lee.

Royals have a fund raising night on Friday June 23 when Xcell will be appearing at Blackbrook Club, tickets £2,50 are available from the club.
