IT'S a bit unusual for folk still in their twenties to display a keen interest in local history.

But Peter Somers has become fascinated with the pleasant little backwater of Longshaw, near Billinge, to where he recently moved. And now he just can't get enough information about that little dot on the local map.

What fired the curiosity of Peter, a mechanic with the Merton Bank motor repair firm of Yates Brothers, is the old end-terraced stone house, 50 Longshaw Old Road, into which he recently moved.

He has traced its origins back to the1800s but would welcome any photographs of this and any other old original dwellings. He'd especially like to see any photographs of what the old settlement once looked like and pictures of bygone village activity .

ANYONE able to help could kindly drop me a line at the Star and I'll pass the details on to Peter.
