A FEAST of military bands will be blasting out an assortment of lively music at this weekend's Citizen-backed gala event, to be staged at Fulwood Barracks, in Preston.

On Saturday (June 24), visitors can enjoy a display of Beating Retreat, which opens at 6pm with a thrilling parachute drop on to the main square.

Various military bands will perform a tableau of music and marching to both traditional and modern numbers.

The salute will be taken by the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Lord Shuttleworth, who will be hosted by the Commander of 42 (North West) Brigade, brigadier Alex Birtwhistle.

People attending the Millennium Forces Day on Sunday (June 25), at 10.30am to 5pm, will be able to observe the British Army in action.

The day will feature heats and the final of an infantry bridge building competition with four of the region's major units.

And there will be scenarios based on the peace-keeping roles throughout the world as well as free entrance to the Queen's Lancashire Museum, including its Boer War display and living history exhibition by the Great War Society.
