HILTON Dawson's letter attacking the Greens seems remarkably similar to the one he wrote a few weeks ago and he seems to have ignored most of the points in my reply to his original version. So, I'll try another tack.

The most important nettle that Mr Dawson and the Labour Party fail to grasp is the way that the increasing domination of the world by big business and multi-national companies is decimating British manufacturing.

Our industries and farmers are suffering because it is cheaper to produce things in countries where there are lower labour costs, worse working conditions and no social security system.

We are in a downward spiral, competing for which country can pay the least wages and have the least regulation.

I would have thought that a responsible Government would try to do something about this. But the Labour Party seems afraid to upset their 'friends' in big business and the media.

The Green Party solution is to focus efforts on creating a strong local economy where jobs are protected from the ravages of international trade - where people are decently paid and operate under safe working practices. We want a society where individuals accept responsibilities and in return have greater control over their own lives.
