KING Edward and Queen Mary's Under 14 cricketers turned up the heat to record two fine victories against William Hulme's and Arnold.
In sweltering conditions Lytham rattled up 154 from 30 overs against William Hulme's with Richard Openshaw leading the way with an impressive 52, well supported by Wesley Trusch 35 and David Hartley 35 not out.
Then captain Frank Taylor used his committed bowlers well as the Mancunians subsided quickly to just 60 all out.
A superb innings of 85 not out by England schools batsman Jack Kelliher enabled Lytham to reach 130 in the Lancashire Cup tie with Arnold. At 80 for 2 the visitors seemed on course for victory but tight bowling and fielding by Lytham turned up the heat and gave King Edward's a well deserved win by 20 runs.
Kings' coach Ian Cowlishaw was very pleased with the positive approach of his team.

"I was especially delighted with the victory against William Hulme's, because the impressive display was achieved despite the absence of Jack Kelliher in the 1st XI," he said.
"We have some difficult games against Crosby and Macclesfield ahead but these impressive wins are just the tonic.
