STUDENTS at Lancaster University were in shock this week after a woman was stabbed to death on the Bailrigg campus.
A man has been charged with the murder of mature student Lorraine Roseanna Price, 44, of Main Road, Galgate, who was found dead in the university's Furness College.
University security staff were called to a room in the college in the early hours of Sunday morning, where they found the body of Ms Price.
She was originally from mid-Glamorgan and was in the third year of a Women's Studies degree course.
Rateb Mustafa Raflan, 30, of Bardsea Block, Furness College, Lancaster University, was remanded in custody for a week at Lancaster magistrates on Tuesday morning.
Mr Raflan, a Syrian national, is studying for an MA in Contemporary Literary Studies at the university.
It is reported that he arrived in Lancaster last October.
University spokesperson Vicky Tyrell said: "Everyone is very shocked and upset.
"Lorraine was very popular and made a lot of friends in her time here.
"The student support services have been catering for students since Sunday, and they will be continuing to offer support."
