MATT JANSEN has apologised to England and Blackburn Rovers and vowed to get his head down and produce the goods for club and country.

The Rovers striker was hit by a three-match international ban by the FA for breaking a curfew while on duty with the England under-21 squad.

Jansen was suspended, along with Aston Villa's Lee Hendrie and Derby County midfielder Seth Johnson, after going out for a drink on a night off between games during England's recent UEFA Under-21 Championships finals campaign in Slovakia.

He is also facing action from Rovers with manager Graeme Souness waiting to see the full FA report before deciding what form that will take.

Jansen has responded by writing letters of apology to both Rovers and England following his return from holiday.

And after the matter has been dealt with the 22-year-old clearly hopes to close the chapter, concentrate on helping Rovers launch a promotion challenge and enhance his long-term England prospects.

He said: "I deeply regret breaking the team curfew on Tuesday, May 30 and the embarrassment it caused for the England under-21 squad and staff, my club, family and myself.

"I am dedicated to my football career both at club and international level and I intend to work very hard to demonstrate that I have the potential to play for my country in the future."

Souness said earlier this summer that young players like Jansen, Damian Duff and David Dunn would be key players for Rovers as they look to reclaim their Premiership status.
