VICIOUS thugs attacked a man with a baseball bat in the early hours of Friday morning before kicking and beating him.

The 21-year-old man was approached by two men while walking down Cumberland Avenue on the corner of Whitegate Drive, Blackpool, at 1.45am on June 16, when one of the pair asked him for a cigarette.

When he said he hadn't any, he was struck in the face by a baseball bat and then the other attacker hit and kicked him.

The victim managed to fight back and the two thugs ran east along Whitegate Drive.

The man with the baseball bat is described as white, 30-35 years old, speaking with a Scottish accent, of quite stocky build, with dark hair in a pony tail, wearing a black leather-style jacket generally and generally scruffy in appearance.

The other man is described as white, 30-35 years old, his hair was short, cropped and dark and he was wearing a black leather-style jacket and again described as scruffy.

BOGUS workmen robbed a 95-year-old man of £500 after saying they needed to examine waste pipes at the back of his house on Seventh Avenue, Blackpool, at around 1.30pm on June 9.

While one of the men distracted the man, the other sneaked into the house and stole the cash and some Premium Bond certificates before they both left.

One man is described as white, 30 years-old, 5ft 4ins, stocky with short, cropped dark hair and wearing a navy or black leather jacket and training shoes with a white pattern.

The other is described as white, 18-years-old, 5ft 6ins, slim with short, dark hair and wearing a navy fleece. A SIMILAR incident also happened at around 2pm on the same day (June 9) at the home of an 80-year-old lady at West Cliffe, Lytham, where thieves stole £1,500 and jewellery.

One of the crooks called at the lady's house stating he had come to inspect the drain covers and was led round to the backyard where he tried to enter the house before she stopped him.

He made his excuses and left, but it is believed that while the lady was distracted the man's accomplice sneaked into the house and stole the money plus two rings.

A white man, aged 19-20 years old with short brown hair was seen leaving the front of the house.

The bogus workman was described as white, 30 years old 5ft 10ins with short, dark hair and wearing a black jacket closed up to the neck and dark trousers and he spoke with an accent that was not local.

ANOTHER bogus caller knocked on the back door of a 93-year-old woman's house on Mythop Road, Lytham, on June 13, claiming he had come to check the water quality.

He then offered to do work in the garden while his accomplice sneaked into the house and ransacked the woman's bedroom.

Nothing was stolen but the caller is described as white, late 20s, smart, 5ft 7ins, slim and with short dark hair.
