RUBEROID Sutton claimed top spot in the Merseyside Competition with victory at Cheshire Lines on Saturday.

They made a good start as Mike Rimmer and the evergreen Geoff Bowles put on 96 runs for the first wicket in only 22 overs. Complacency then set in as Sutton collapsed to 150 all out. Cheshire Lines were always up with the scoring rate but Ray Foster, with four wickets, and Bapa Mukherjee, with three, helped bowl Cheshire Lines out for 138.

The Second XI played Cheshire Lines at New Street and once again batting let them down as only Stuart Rimmer with 28 gave much resistance as Sutton collapsed to 99 all out. To their credit Sutton battled hard and Cheshire Lines lost six wickets before reaching their total.

The Third XI played at Earlestown on Sunday and gave a chance to some of their up and coming youngsters. Batting first Sean Anders and Andy Barnett made valubale contributions in Sutton's total of 143 but mention must go to the juniors Mark Onion, Gary Clarke, Andrew Hughes and Phil Cunningham who performed well. Earlestown made 121-9 in a drawn game with all the bowlers contributing.

Sutton wish to thank their matchball sponsor T & S Greener Motor Repairs for their continued support.
