WALMER had victory from just one of their teams in this week's fixtures in the Bolton Tennis League.

That sole victory was gained by the Mixed A team in their Division Two, home fixture with Markland Hill C. A convincing 6-2 set from Andy Foster and Zara Chadowic, and a win of 6-5 by Mike Davies and Pat Greening allowed Walmer a slight lead in the mixed section, despite reverses of 4-6, from Steve Routledge and Gail Blackburn and Mark Booth and Carol Smalley.

In the Ladies section, three sets were won with a five-game margin although Gail and Zara lost one set by 1-6.

The men gained another seven games when Davies and Foster won by 6-1, 6-2, and Routledge and Booth scored 6-3, 1-6, for Walmer to run out winners by 58 to 45.

A weakened B mixed team travelled to league leaders Walkers TC, and yet it was newcomers Matt and Lucy Hargreaves who recorded Walmers' home success in the mixed section with a 6-1 win.

The men managed to win another set with a 6-1 from Julian Nuttall and Paul Biggins, but hard as they tried, Walmer made little further impression as they lost by 36-62.

Walmer Mixed C came close yet again before suffering a narrow defeat at Holcombe Brook D. Keith Fairhurst and Carole Turner were the only pair to win, 6-0, in the mixed section so that the team were facing an uphill task as the gent's and ladies sections were played. Peter Duckworth and Stuart Duress won both their sets but Fairhurst and Booth, having won by 6-1, were disappointing in losing their second set 2-6. Carole Turner and Lucy Wright won games, and in the last set of the match, Fiona McKernan and Rebecca Vipond won by 6-5, a great effort not enough to prevent a Walmer defeat by five games.

The men's A team played at Lostock A and failed to take their chances to win. Andy Davies and John Allen won two-and-a-half sets and Mike Davies and Andy Foster added another. Steve Routledge and Adam Worsley failed to add to the scores, so Walmer were losers by 3-5. This result was repeated by Walmer B in their match with Stand B at Mosley Avenue.

The men's C team lost at Hawkshaw D where Fairhurst and Booth were lone winners in Walmers 2-7 defeat.

The Walmer D team also lost by 2-7 to Bradshaw C, with their sets won by Tait and Hargreaves 6-3, and Greening and Vipond by 6-4.
