REGARDING the proposal (LET, July 21) for reviving Blackburn Road, Accrington, I think it is disgusting.
I have lived in the area for 34 years and having all those smelly eating places on my doorstep is not my idea at all. We have enough of them in Accrington and the surrounding area.
All right, it is definitely not a very nice place to live now, as many houses are run down, have no paint, lots of weeds in the gardens and dirty pavements. But what it needs is greenery -- trees.
If the council want to do something, it should get the idea of restaurants and takeaways out of their head.
Also, we have enough houses. They pull property down, then build more which won't last.
If they have money to spare, then that should be used to educate people to take care of the property they have and help them to adapt those houses already there.
Half the houses in the area are empty and vandalised or boarded up, so more houses are not required.
Green areas with trees are what is needed.
A GRIME (Mrs), Monk Street, Accrington.
