HAS Chris Wrigley (Letters, July 27) no sense of feeling, or has he been living in cloud cuckoo land for the past month?

For his information, on July 1, a little girl, aged eight, vanished. For the next two weeks the majority of the country sat waiting for news, hoping and praying (as Christians do) she would be found alive.

Instead, the news was heartbreaking -- another innocent life taken, just for a thrill. This sadistic killer is still at large, yet Mr Wrigley would allow another beast to roam among us so freely.

Myra Hindley should have been hanged 35 years ago.

Both she and Ian Brady have been in the public eye all these years. Whatever they do is very much of interest to the media who shove it down the throats of the public whether we like it or not.

The likes of these beasts are the rabble of this society and the people who want to see a return of capital punishment are now becoming the do-gooders. If you have any compassion, imagine Sarah Payne's last few hours of life and the horrors she endured.

I would much prefer to be condemned than to forgive an animal who could do this to a child. They do not qualify to be placed in a class called the human race.

J WARBURTON (Mrs), Nuttall Street, Blackburn.
