POLICE today revealed a fresh sighting of missing teenage Ruksana Khatun on the day she vanished from East Lancashire.
Following widespread media appeals last week, detectives searching for the missing 15-year-old say she was seen at Burnley's Manchester Road railway station.
Two people have contacted the police to say they saw her waiting for the 9.51am train to York on Saturday June 10. The only other confirmed sighting of Ruksana was at 7.30am at Accrington, where she boarded a Colne-bound train.
According to the two witnesses who have come forward, Ruksana was spoken to by several people while she was on the platform, including a middle-aged couple and a man in his fifties.
Det Insp Bob Eastwood today said: "We would like to speak to these three people because they may have been told where she is travelling too. "She is a girl I believe people will remember talking too because she is small and was struggling with heavy bags at the time.
"At the time she was on the eastbound platform, it is likely she was waiting for a train to York."
Detectives have always believed Ruksana boarded the Colne-bound train by mistake after buying a train ticket to London. The train she was waiting for at Burnley was going to York, and would have connected with trains to London along the East Coast Main Line.
It is not known for certain whether she arrived in London.
But DI Eastwood added: "We need to know if Ruksana caught this train. We would appeal for people to come forward if they were on that train. For many it will be a memorable journey because a boy was sick on the train.
"Ruksana was not connected with that incident but we hope it jogs people's memories about the journey."
The incident room's phone number at Accrington is (01253) 353711.
