VANDALS have ruined swings on a popular children's playground after going on a wrecking spree.
Councillors David and Karimeh Foster have blasted the attack at Whitehall Park in Darwen.
Mr Foster said: "We spent a lot of time campaigning for improvements on the park when we were first elected and are both disgusted about this vandalism.
"The people responsible need to be caught. There is also an on-going problem with dog fouling and graffiti and we would urge people to report any offenders."
Mrs Foster added: "It is a shame that a minority spoil things for the rest of the community. Like many other areas we have a problem with juvenile nuisance. It was only last month that we held a meeting with the police and business people to look at ways of tackling it.
"We will not let these vandals spoil our work.
The swing seats were set on fire and rubbish in a bin was burned during a separate attack during the past fortnight.
A spokesman for Blackburn with Darwen Council said: "This is wanton destruction of a facility used by many people in the borough.
"This sort of vandalism can also be very dangerous. The swings will be replaced, but in the meantime, the swings will be out of action.
"There is not a particular problem at Whitehall Park, but, unfortunately, it is the sort of thing that happens in areas across the borough from time to time."
