HOUSEHOLDERS in Pendle are being warned to lock up tight, particularly at night, after a spate of walk-in thefts in Nelson and Barrowford in recent weeks.

Acting detective sergeant Ruth Chew, of Nelson CID, said: "People tend to leave their doors either open or unlocked during the day when it's warm weather but we've had instances when doors have been left unlocked through the night.

"Thieves can simply walk in, grab any valuables and walk out again without the householder knowing.

"We would advise people to make sure their doors are locked."
