A 77-YEAR-OLD man suffered burns to 50 per cent of his body during an incident at a nursing home.
East Lancashire Health Authority began an investigation yesterday at Whitcliffe nursing home, Blackburn, into the incident in which the man's pyjamas caught fire while he was in the kitchen.
Blackburn firefighters were called to the East Park Road home at 7pm on Sunday but the fire had already been extinguished. The man was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary then transferred to the specialist burns unit at the Royal Preston Hospital.
A spokeswoman for East Lancashire Health Authority, and the managing director of Primelife plc, which owns the home, both refused to give any details about the pensioner or how the fire started.
Managing director Peter Vanherrewege said the incident would be fully looked into.
