A LUCKY punter was celebrating today after scooping the £1million jackpot on the Premium Bonds.

The winner -- who can only be identified as being from Lancashire -- is the sixth winner of the monthly tax-free prize from the county and won the jackpot with a £5,000 bond which he bought last July. In total the winner has more than £10,000 worth of bonds.

In Lancashire there are more than one million people who hold Premium Bonds worth more than £600 million.

But there are over 21,898 unclaimed prizes worth more than £1.3million in Lancashire, Merseyside and the Isle of Man Region.

Premium Bonds can be bought at any post office and a minimum £100 gives the bondholder 100 chances of winning every month.

Any would-be winners can check unclaimed prizes by writing with their full details to Premium Bonds, National Savings, Blackpool, FY3 9ZW or checking the website on www.nationalsavings.co.uk. Or they can ask at any main post office for a copy of the Supplement to the London Gazzette.
