THE climatic changes that we are all being warned of must have affected Rishton already, although the last time I passed the Esplanade with its resplendent gardens, I did not see much evidence of the cafe society that resident S King (Letters, July 31) recommends for Blackburn.
Perhaps the Rishtonian smart set was away being treated for hypothermia at Accy Vic.
Regarding the issue of Church Street in Blackburn town centre, the few shop owners that Mrs King refers to amount to more than 250 local traders.
They in turn employ a huge number of local hard-working staff and rely on the continued patronage of shoppers for their livelihood
If traders get it wrong they go under. If, however, councils get it wrong, they still claim their expenses.
Mrs King is welcome to come and inspect the survey carried out in the town among traders.
But just in case she cannot get across town, the survey result is 224 traders opposed to the closure of Church Street with six in favour.
Don't take my word for it, Mrs King -- borrow some money and open up a pavement cafe in Church Street. I am sure that any Blackburn bank will think it a great idea.
