I WOULD be grateful if I could, via your letters page, express my disgust at certain so-called 'supporters' of St Helens RLFC.
I, myself am a supporter of the Saints, and was absolutely ecstatic at the win over our great rivals. However, come Monday morning, I was informed that a friend of mine, a Wigan supporter, was set upon by six or seven thugs in Saints shirts, who jumped him from behind, and tore his Wigan shirt.
This man is a friend, and I know him well enough to be certain that he would not get involved in any trouble, nor was he drunk. It seems he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, just walking back to the car.
To those involved, I hope you are thoroughly ashamed of yourselves. You have let the club down, the players down, yourselves down, but most of all the good-natured, honest, TRUE Saints fans who go to each match, cheer on their team, and walk away without bother, win or lose.
I sincerely hope someone saw this and reports you. You are the type of supporter this game can do without.
