I WAS surprised to read in The Citizen that Cllr England accused me of not listening to my constituents on the issue of Safeway at Carnforth and even more surprised to be accused of abstaining on this issue.
When the Safeway site was being developed a few local people did have to suffer some disturbance and were quite rightly against the development.
However, when 2,000 people in the area signed a petition in favour of Safeway I took that as an indication that the majority of people I represent were most definitely wanting the store to be built.
As I hope to be a councillor who does listen to my constituents and have tried to do so for 30 years, I voted for Safeway all the way, through the many meetings that were held on this development.
At no time did I abstain.
I applaud Cllr England, standing up to conviction when she voted against Ryelands being bulldozed, she stood up for what she believed was right, something I always try to do.
