AS dusk fell on a warm Sunday evening in Lytham, crowds of people flocked from all over the Fylde coast to wonder at the sound of the Last Night of the Proms concert on Lytham Green.
And as the last light of day disappeared, a fantastic fireworks display lit up the sky.
Paul Norris, tourism officer for Fylde Borough Council, said the concert on July 30 -- only the second of its kind -- was a huge success and went with a big bang as the impressive pyrotechnics illuminated the night.
Earlier in the evening, the crowds were treated to a range of classics performed by the Northern Chamber Orchestra, as well as music from the award-winning Freckleton band and Longridge Band. Other highlights of the evening, compered by John Savident (Fred Elliott of Coronation Street), were folk singers Joan Aitchison and Paul Gibson.
Paul Norris said: "It wasn't a sell out but attendance was definitely up to expectations.
"With more than 3,000 turning up, the centre of Lytham was buzzing!"
All the proceeds from the concert will go towards the Help The Hospices and Guillian-Barre Syndrome -- a disease which affects the nervous system.
Fylde Mayor Paul Hayhurst said the charity was close to his heart as he himself is an ex-sufferer. He said: " I hope the proms will return as Lytham Green is ideal for the event -- things like this can put Lytham permanently on the map."
