SOUTH Ribble MP David Borrow has pledged to do all that he can to help salvage dozens of jobs at one of Leyland's oldest manufacturing firms.
Dozens of workers are facing redundancy after the Dunlop Enerka Belting's factory, off Centurion Way, Leyland, closed abruptly last week.
Around 67 employees have already been laid-off on full pay until the end of next month, while a further 16 staff have been retained until Christmas this year, to make a rubber solution for other company's in Unipoly group.
It is hoped that some workers will be found jobs in the firm's sister companies which include the BTR Hose and Leyland and Birmingham Rubber Company, both based in Leyland.
The closure came just days after workers threatened strike action after new pay demands were not met.
The firm -- formerly known as BTR Belting -- made steel-cord conveyor belts for the mining and quarrying industries.
Union bosses have blamed the strong pound in foreign markets and the fall in demand for the company's decision.
Mr Borrow added: "I am currently contacting all those involved in the company to see if there is a possibility of saving jobs or getting another company to take over the business."
