AFTER reading a report by Frances Bickerdike in The Citizen (July 20) the reduction in crime levels is very welcome, particularly when living in one of Chief Supt Ricard Taylor's crime hot spots -- Alexandra Ward.
But why aren't we given a balanced report on crime? When were people told of clear up figures? Is this because Lancashire and Lancashire Western Division have figures for solving crime which are disgraceful?
Shall we compare, say, Dyfed Powys, with our own area? Percentage detection rates Dyfed Powys first, Lancashire Western second.
Violence 97 per cent against 74 per cent; sex crimes 94pc against 69; robbery 68 pc against 21; burglary 36 pc against 13; vehicle theft 38 pc against 16; vehicle break-in 28 pc against 8. Is it any wonder Det Chief Supt Adrian McAllister does not offer these figures?
In the past seven days, two friends were violated against. One near St Annes Square -- a vehicle break-in and property theft reported to the police who did not bother to attend. Another smashed window -- not reported. What's the point?
