PRESCOT & Odyssey CC slipped defeat to the hands of Aigburth on Saturday.

P&O skipper Carl Oughterson won the toss and put Aigburth in to bat.

The opening bowling attack of Paul Dagnall and Alan McComb bowled with accuracy and guile to frustrate the Aigburth batting who early on could do no better that two runs an over.

They bowled so well that skipper Oughterson was able to bowl them right through the innings. Aigburth were dismissed for 127 with five wickets apiece for Dagnall and McComb at a cost of 52 and 68 respectivley.

Confident of victory, P&O chased the total well and an early let off for Barrie Keeble enabled him to complete 32 runs befors mistiming a hook shot with the score on 61. P&O then had a mini collapse and lost three more wickets in quick succesion.

But P&O worked their way towards probable victory until a cluster of debatabler umpiring decisions turned the game for the visitors.

With nine balls remaining and only four runs required for victory, Aigburth's young Indian professional screamed at the umpire for LBW. His appeal was answered in the affirmative and the game was lost. The second team's trip to Aigburth ended their current winning streak, P&O could only manage 94 before the Aigburth attack finished them off, the majority of the runs coming from Mike Johnes 31 and Rod Dixon 26 n.o. Aigburth made short work of the chase and lost only one wicket in reply, holidays and injury are currently causing havoc with team selection at P&O.

The 3rd team's game was cancelled as the opposition could not raise a side.

This week P&O firsts visit Wavertree whose second and third string's are entertained at Burrows Lane.

The repair to the P&O pavillion after an arson attack earlier this year is now well underway. Funds to raise money for improving security are sorely needed.
