I READ with amazement the letter from Sainsbury's branch manager Frank Almond (July 28) in which he stated that the alternative to the voucher system "is for civil servants to hand out bags of shopping to asylum seekers".
No, Frank, the alternative to the voucher system is for asylum seekers to be treated the same as other benefit claimants and receive their money via a Girocheque or payment book.
This would cause no problems for staff and would give asylum seekers the same status as other customers, ie: the right to choose where they shop, without embarrassment or humiliation.
