MAY I applaud Ivan Lewis MP for his reply (Your Letters, July 28) to the anonymous writers who have attacked him recently in the press.
"Ex-Labour Voter", in particular, seems to be using the race card himself by accusing our MP of being racist! It is all too easy, and also unfair, for anonymous writers to besmirch with impunity the good name of others.
After 18 years of Tory mis-rule, of a rapidly declining health service, and mass unemployment, the general public showed itself to be more than ready for a change to New Labour by electing them with a massive majority.
Perhaps, like myself, too many people have been over-anxious to see the sweeping changes that will achieve a fairer society. So while such changes are being made we should all try to be a little more patient.
