BROWNIES from the 3rd St Helens Unit got more than they bargained for when they tackled one of the country's deepest potholes as part of a Millennium Challenge.
For the youngsters, who were accompanied by their Guiders and police officers Michelle Harrison and Graham Lynch, witnessed a dramatic cave rescue during their expedition to Gaping Gill in Yorkshire, which is more than 300ft deep.
As a result, the party were kept down in the pothole for two hours longer than normal in cold and wet conditions.
But in true Guide Association tradition they didn't let the setback stop them from completing their task.
And Constables Harrison and Lynch praised the girls for their "great courage and staying power."
