REGARDING the complaint of M Courtney (Letters, July 31), I would like to make it clear that Blackburn with Darwen Council did not supply fridges under the 'Fridgesaver' scheme.
This was a national initiative aimed at replacing faulty fridges for people on low income. Our role was to publicise the scheme to local people and refer any inquiries to the organisers.
All fridges supplied under the scheme were brand new, of good quality and guaranteed for 12 months. The scheme has, in fact, been very successful in Blackburn with Darwen, with more than 800 fridges replaced and this was the first complaint we have been made aware of.
We have been in contact with Ms Courtney to respond directly to her concerns.
MAUREEN BATESON, (Executive Member, Citizens Rights and Consumer Affairs), Blackburn with Darwen Council.
