IRAQ gave permission for all foreigners stranded in Kuwait or Iraq to leave the country by land through Jordan. Hundreds of westerners, including some from East Lancashire, were caught up in the Gulf War.
It was feared president Saddam Hussein would use foreigners as hostages against attacks by the US.
