THE mother of missing teenager Ruksana Khatun cannot stop crying about her daughter's disappearance, a detective involved in the case revealed today.

Detective Inspector Bob Eastwood, of Accrington CID, said it was becoming increasingly hard to go to Ruksana's family and say they had no new information about their daughter, who has been missing for eight weeks.

The Hollins High School pupil has not been seen since she left her Accrington home and boarded a train to Colne from Accrington railway station.

A second sighting of Ruksana, awaiting the 9.51am train to York from Burnley Manchester Road was this week confirmed by detectives.

But they still have no idea where she is, or who she is with.

Despite a nationwide poster campaign at railway stations by police and a similar project in London by the Missing Persons Helpline, no new information has been made available to detectives.

They are still investigating the possibility the 15-year-old is in London. She is known to have purchased a train ticket to the capital before she disappeared. DI Eastwood said: "Everyone has seen the father make an appeal to her but we still do not know where she is.

"We are visiting the family regularly and they are all distraught, particularly her mother, who cannot stop crying.

"It is very difficult for us to have to tell them we have no new information.

"We would urge anyone with any information to let us know. We want to know where she is and that she is safe.

"She is a vulnerable girl who didn't have enough money with her to last so long. That is why we think she is with friends we may not know about."

A spokesman for the Missing Person's Helpline, which has taken on the case, said they had no new information.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Accrington CID on 01254 382141 or the Missing Person's Helpline on 0500 700 700.
