STAFF from independent care homes and agencies in Blackburn and Darwen have completed a training programme to help them improved the quality of care for local residents.
More than 170 staff from 44 independent care homes and agencies received their certificates at the East Lancashire Club, having completed courses in basic food hygiene, basic first aid and moving and lifting.
They were presented by tutors from the Lancashire Ambulance Service and Blackburn College.
The training for the scheme was provided through a partnership between Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council social services and regeneration departments, Blackburn Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Care Association, Blackburn College and the East Lancashire Training and Enterprise Council.
The partnership raised £763,000 for the scheme, which included £343,000 from the European Social Fund to fund the programme of short courses, NVQ qualifications in Care level 2 and Training and Development Lead Body Assessors Award.
