Preston 1, Athletico Bilbao 3
PRESTON manager David Moyes enjoyed his European experience but revealed it's back to the drawing board for the final week before their big kick off at Grimsby,.
The boss still feels he has some things to sort out after their 3-1 defeat by Spanish League side Athletico Bilbao.
"It was an experience as they play a typical European type game. It was good to play at that level and maybe we will get the chance to play against teams like that regularly in the future.
"But I felt we defended badly for two of the goals and these are things we will have to eradicate before the season starts. We couldn't get near Bilbao and they controlled the game."
Spain's Euro 2000 winger Jose Etxeberria started the match but he was subsituted before the goals started to flow.
David Karanka headed home the first on 47 minutes, one time Spanish international Julen Guerrero made it two before Francisco Javier Yeste added the third on 88 minutes.
In between, Mark Rankine, captain for the day in the absence of Sean Gregan who was on the bench, converted Paul McKenna's cross on 80 minutes. "It's always disappointing to lose but the real thing starts next Saturday," added Moyes, who is hoping Gregan will be able to start at Blundell Park despite his sending off in the pre season friendly at Glentoran.
North End boss David Moyes is still waiting to see if Sheffield Wednesday striker Richard Cresswell is coming to Deepdale. Preston's bid for the £1million rated player has been accepted but the deal has still to be finalised.
