MY late mother once lived in Darwen -- in a house that she described as being on 'stilts.'
I can only presume that the rear of the house was built over low land and required support, thus her description of it 'being on stilts.'
She was Nellie Danks, born in Kirkham, in 1904 and moved to Darwen in about 1916.
My mother eventually moved south and married in 1930 and I was born the same year in Lambeth, London.
I visit Lancashire several times a year as my daughter now lives just outside Burnley and, while on the visits, I have made several attempts to obtain information regarding the 'house on stilts,' but without any luck.
Perhaps readers can come up with some information.
